Position Title:  Activities Instructor              FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Code: INSTRACT              EEO Category: Service Workers

Reports To: Director of Operations

 

 

Position Summary


The Activities Instructor is responsible for coordinating all aspects of events for the program, which includes but is not limited to indoor, outdoor, and off-site activities. The Activities Instructor will supervise student activities as required.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach and coach Youth assigned activities,
  • Establish and implement guidelines for comparing skills taught in Program activities to real life skills to guide youth successfully when they transition out of the program,
  • Maintains activity plans for area of responsibility and coordinates all activities with the Lead Teacher and Program Manager/Director of Operations,
  • Collaborate with Executive Director to establish and maintain outside activities vendors as needed,
  • Research, select, and maintain appropriate materials, equipment, and resources, and maintains accurate and completed administrative file systems,
  • Evaluates students' knowledge and abilities through both written and practical examinations and certifies students in accordance with relevant certification guidelines,
  • Maintains records of students' progress in certification and curriculum-based classes.
  • Maintain relevant industry certifications
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification by nationally recognized organization,
  • Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with National standards,
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certification as defined by state and contract requirements,
  • Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents, using the authorized state mandated training methods,
  • Ensure the safety, supervision, advising, counseling, and role modeling for the youth,
  • Adheres to all contract and state educational guidelines and Quality Improvement requirements,
  • Actively participates in day trips and special activities that involve recreational sports, facility and equipment cleaning, grounds maintenance and equipment relocation,
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Lifeguard certification and Challenge Course instructor certification,
  • Transport youth and may drive for other work-related tasks,
  • Position requires driving on a regular basis,
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent,
  • Four (4) years related experience (e.g., aquatics instruction, ropes course, etc.),
  • Experience with event management preferred.

Environmental Conditions


Work is typically performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors. Some tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to outdoor elements, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather. Some may involve working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heightened awareness of surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, incumbents must possess the ability to work with youth.

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The Team Member is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
